Elders

Twenty-one members of the church are elected for three-year terms by the congregation to serve as Elders. Seven new Elders are elected each year. Along with the Pastor/Head of Staff, who is the moderator, the Associate Pastors and the Elders form the Session, which is responsible for the mission and government of the church. The Session is charged with providing services of worship and the encouragement of people to participate fully and regularly in the life of the church. They provide for the regular preaching of the Word and for the celebration of the sacraments on days and times which they specify. They are responsible for the music programs and other arts of the church. Each of the standing committees is chaired by an Elder, who reports the committee’s progress to the Session during its regular monthly meetings. Both past and present members of the Elders and Deacons aid in the services of the monthly celebration of the sacraments.

Twenty-four members are elected for three-year terms with eight elected each year by the congregation. It is their charge to minister to those in need, to the sick, to the friendless, and to any one who may be in distress both within and beyond the congregation. Four members serve as officers on the Board of Deacons, and the Associate Pastor is the moderator of their meetings. The Deacons are responsible for obtaining volunteers to serve as ushers and Owl Express drivers. They prepare and serve refreshments in Fellowship Hall as well as handle the Chili Cart, Food Bank, coffee sales, and information table. In addition, Deacons are responsible for the preparation of the sacraments for communion services and for readying the items in the pews for Sunday services. They also distribute the sacraments along with the Elders.
